    Situation

St Peter's Cathedral in Lancaster has launched an appeal to raise money for an endowment fund to promote excellent music in the Cathedral. The Cathedral Parish receives no music budget from the Diocese and has very few financial resources of its own. Following a successful appeal to restore the Cathedral's Victorian pipe organ (which has now raised over £80K), St Peter's Cathedral has now founded the St Peter's Cathedral Music Trust with aim to provide liturgical music of the highest quality during Masses and other services, and to provide 'musical outreach' to local schools and to the wider community. The Cathedral parish, through the vehicle of the Music Trust, is working hard to raise money for an endowment which will fund a part-time Director of Music (who will begin in February 2008), annual choral and organ scholarships, expenses relating to the purchase of music and a variety of musical activities, including concerts, workshops and festivals, to be held within the Cathedral precincts. The Cathedral Parish has worked very hard over the last few years to launch a full programme of concerts and other cultural events and proceeds from these events and form other fundraising initiatives will be placed in the endowment account. Shortly various grant-giving bodies will be approached as well, but the need for generous private donations is paramount. Please consider helping us to bring beautiful music back into our Cathedral for everyone to enjoy!
