FSC wishes to develop an independent Biodiversity Centre in Shropshire where training can be delivered, data stored and biological information to be managed and interpreted. A new building and staff resources are needed. FSC has been instrumental in the development of biodiversity training and data management in Shropshire over the last 15 years and wishes to provide a dedicated facility to continue and expand this work.

    Situation

FSC is currently involved in a 5 year biodiversity training project. From research we know that there is a real need to work with volunteers to help grow them to become the next generation of wildlife experts. Training at all levels from complete beginner to ‘near specialist’ level is needed across a huge range of species and habitats. Training includes taxonomic skills and survey, mapping and monitoring skills. A new and independent building is needed to become the Shropshire Biodiversity Records Centre. Of modest size it can act as a meeting point, for records collation, information analysis and dissemination. The project should work closely with all the other public, private and voluntary sector bodies and individuals in Shropshire who have an interest in providing and using biological information. Training provision for future generations of wildlife experts: estimated costs £60k per year x 5 years = £300k New Records centre: estimated cost to build £800k Amount £300,000
