Walsingham House is a retreat house used by 5,000 young people each year. They come from Essex and East London and family and school pressures can mean that they are in real need of a retreat. In 2005 the House was falling apart, and it has now been fully reurbished. We had a loan of £250,000 underwritten for us and need £90,000 to pay it off.

    Situation

Walsingham House is a youth led project where a dedicated team of 19-25 year olds give a year to volunteer to help young people aged 10-18 have one, two or three day retreats. In 2005 a survey confirmed that the House needed urgent attention after being used by more than 50,000 young people since 1995. The refurbishment project and details can be viewed at www.walsinghamhouse.org Paying the remaining bill for the refurbishment will mean that we can once again fully focus on the needs of the young people, and not be distracted by the need to constantly fundraise. The area we draw from includes the London Boroughs of Newham and Waltham Forest, as well as all of Essex. This means the young people coming on retreat here often desperately need the space and time for reflection that the House provides, coupled with the enthusiasm and energy of the young team, helping them as they take a step back from the pressures of life. We are a Catholic house, with a Catholic ethos, and everyone is welcome. Thank you for considering us for a donation.
