We will create new ways for visitors to engage with heritage for enjoyment, learning, creativity, inspiration, career paths and to help write a new chapter for Painted Hall’s history. We want the ORNC to be accessible, welcoming, relevant to all and to break down physical and perceived barriers.

Situation

Our target audiences include individuals and groups with Special Educational Needs, young people as part of ESOL programmes (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and young families who do not feel as though they have the opportunity to participate in heritage engagement opportunities. The ORNC has many perceived and physical barriers to participation and we believe that in working with target audience groups we can develop a heritage attraction that is relevant and welcoming to all.

Solution

Our project activity will provide a wide programme of events and opportunities for our target audiences which will break down perceived and physical barriers and help to create a fully accessible site with a warm welcome. Audiences will have the opportunity to take part in the development of visitor resources, ensuring our work is for and by our visitors. We will build relationships with community groups and expert partners to achieve this and share our learning with colleagues in the sector.
