    Situation

We are a small local charity currently supporting 50 people with learning disabilities and associated problems, in a variety of residential and domiciliary care settings. We know that a significant number will develop dementia, probably at an early age. The environments in which some of those people live will not then be suitable - involving staircases, sharing with others, level of staff input, etc. Our vision is to build a purpose-designed bungalow for people at an early stage of dementia to move into. This will then provide, on a long-term basis, the special support and care that they will need for the rest of their lives. Historically, people who have developed dementia in their 40s and early 50s have often been moved to elderly care homes, where they have died within a matter of weeks in a state of fear and confusion.
