    Situation

Renovation of our cinema seven years ago– the longest-running cinema in Wales –increased attendances which stabilised the company and subsidised other live art forms we promote. Some things about our arts centre: Only the third performing arts centre in Wales to be awarded Investors in People status – with commendation. (Spring 2007) “Well deserved - The organisation's ethos and ambience of commitment, enthusiasm and involvement is well evidenced. This has clearly created excellent teamworking essential for such an enterprise.” IIP panel member. “Best practice” Arts Council’s Senior Grant Monitoring Officer on Wyeside’s procedures for financial management. (Dec 2006) “If Wyeside closes down I suspect crime among the young will go up.” Arnold Wesker. Playwright and Patron of Wyeside. Award-winner for its accessibility; fully compliant with the DDA. Invited to No 10 in recognition of the wonderful work of the voluntary sector. Wales’ longest-running cinema at 96 years old. Birthplace and home to the award-winning Mid Powys Youth Theatre. Annual community plays and large scale youth theatre productions. One of the top six arts venues in Wales awarded for its specialist film programme. A catchment of over 7,000 square miles in Mid Wales. Operating seven days a week throughout the year. Over 800 artistic and cultural events each year run by a team of only three full time staff, plus part time, casual and volunteer support. Years of standstill and reductions in public funding, reductions in Lottery monies and non-statutory status mean Wyeside will be closed for good unless we can improve our facilities. We have literally hundreds of forms signed by customers committed to using Wyeside more, if the facilities were improved. Please help us to save and sustain an extraordinary rural arts centre. Thanks
