    Situation

SCILLS currently runs on a shoe-string, with just one full time worker, who works tirelessly to keep the centre going, as well as working with people with learning disabilities who help run the centre as volunteers. The hall hire and small grants pay for the hall overheads and this worker's salary, but we know we could do so much more with another worker - someone who has the time, skills and knowledge to develop partnerships within the community and with other learning disability providers; someone who could turn SCILLS into a successful social enterprise and provide a model for other centres throughout the country. We are seeking 3 year funding for the salary for this worker at approximately £25k per annum + NI and pension contribution (approx £80,394 in total). We would use the remaining £20k to upgrade our computer equipment and develop a website. We would also use some of the money to pay volunteer's expenses and to offer training to volunteers. This worker would be responsible for developing SCILLS, seeking new ways of funding the centre and promoting it within the local community and more widely as an example of how people with learning disabilities can meaningfully give something back to their community.
