Situation
The International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR), the world’s leading learned society in the field of science and religion, is creating a foundational library of central texts in the field. This library will consist of approximately 250 books spanning all important areas and disciplines as well as key international and intercultural voices. We currently have funding for approximately one hundred and fifty complete sets of volumes to be awarded, from 2009, through an international competition to institutions of higher learning and other high-impact centres in targeted regions, primarily less-developed countries, around the globe, with the intention of greatly improving scholarly and lay access to essential resources in science and religion. By the end of our three-year program a basic library in science and religion will exist for the first time. We are looking for funding to continue this programme and extend it beyond 150 recipient institutions. Each library will cost c.£4,500.00 to create and distribute.
