Future Radio is the community radio station in Norwich which is delivered by volunteers and broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week on both FM frequency and on-line. Programming is locally based with a mix of speech and music highlighting local issues and interests. Radio works with hard to reach young people and adults including training and mentoring.

    Situation

    Aim Provide a quality, media based engagement and training tool for adults from the local and wider communities to communicate with and participate in including management of programming content Outcomes 1. 5000 adults report a more positive attitude in local community end of year 3 with annual increase of 5% each year to end of project 2. 2500 adults are more confident about expressing themselves by end of project 3. 5000 adults aware of the options and services available to them end of year 1, with annual increase of 5% each year to end of project 4. 500 adults report increased skills end of year 1 5. 50 local organisations who have taken part in project report increased use of services end of year 1 Activities • Recruit and train volunteers (Outcomes 1,2,3,4,) • Introductory Skills for Radio training (Outcomes 2,4,) • Master classes for training progression with professional partners (Outcomes 2,4) • Accredited training programme for under 25’s (Outcomes 2,4) • Start and facilitate community programming management team (Outcomes 1,2,4,5) • Local services and provision programming content (Outcomes 1,3, 5) • Long term work experience placements (Outcomes 2,3,4) • Intergenerational project that encourages the community to work together (1) • Credible, relevant and quality provision that community is proud of (1) This application is to add value to Norwich’s new full-time community radio station by developing a new volunteer recruitment and training programme for 2500 volunteers by 2013, 250 under 25's receiving accredited arts awards, increasing volunteering hours and take-up rates by 600% by 2013, produce 5,000 programmes and features by 2013, improve quality of broadcast output by increasing Norwich radio audience share by 30%, raise satisfaction levels of participants and audience, create one community radio forum for programming and station management by April 2009, increase financial self sufficiency of the radio station by 2013 and better community involvement by increasing number of organisations involved by 100% by 2013 NB: Application will target adults over 18. We received Young People's Funding for a young persons mentoring, support and media training programme and this application will not overlap with exsisting project.
