Birmingham Cab offers help and advice to all citizens of Birmingham, unfortunately some of the most deprived communities are also the most isolated. We aim to provide a caseworker to liase with local organisations within these hard to reach communties, ensureing that they do not miss out on the vital help that they need.

    Situation

£24,000 will pay the staffing costs for a full time caseworker for one year who will be able to work closely with hard to reach communities. The Caseworker would provide first person generalist advice to these groups whilst being a gateway to more specialist advice and services that we provide. £18,000 will train 6 individuals from within the highlighted communities to generalist advisors and to specialise in one of a number of areas from Debt and benefits to equal opportunities and discrimination. These 6 individuals would then be able to provide in depth support to their own communities while still having the access to highly developed infrastructure that BCABS has developed over the past 70 years. £ 8,000 would cover the overheads incurred by the the volunteers and caseworker while they where performing their work. These costs would include resource materials, the associated IT equipment they require, a desk to work from and the support of other experienced caseworkers in a wide range of subjects. After the first year of this project we would be left with a strong base of partners and 6 fully trained volunteers to continue the project within areas of deprevation and isolation allowing us the experience and trained manpower to expand the project to further areas of lower isolation but of just as much need.
