The Florence Nightingale Museum Trust

Inspiring Change

The Florence Nightingale Museum is a fascinating museum about a remarkable woman. We need £2 million to drive a programme of change to realise its full potential. A dynamic new exhibition, an ambitious outreach programme and a new website will tell the extraordinary story of Florence Nightingale, and show how she set out to change the world.

The redevelopment programme will put the Museum at the heart of nursing and healthcare, bringing Florence Nightingale’s important legacy to new audiences in Britain and world-wide. The new exhibition spaces will take a fresh look at the life and career of Florence Nightingale. Embracing a broad social relevance, they will use imaginative ways to draw out links between the historical collections and visitors’ interests. Through outreach, the museum will extend its lifelong learning programme in several important directions, linking with future training for all nurses, medical and other healthcare students, and taking learning projects out into the community. It will focus particularly on areas of high social/economic need, such as youth employment training and cultural inclusion. £183,000 will pay for a three-year outreach programme. The new website, costing £42,000, will make the Florence Nightingale Museum’s resources and services available to millions of people in the UK and worldwide, allowing access to the Museum’s archives and collections, offering virtual tours of past and present exhibitions and giving information and support for classroom and outreach learning. The project will be completed ahead of 2010, the centenary of Florence Nightingale’s death. By contributing to our appeal you can become part of this ground-breaking project. Your generosity will be acknowledged in a way to suit your wishes – on a plaque, as a naming opportunity, or by other means which we are happy to discuss.
