Placement Projects

To move to the next step in the development of our two separate projects that support offenders and the homeless into work. We need to build on the success of 60% of offenders finding work through the project.

The purpose of the Leicestershire Cares Community Safety programme is to give offenders a second chance in life to enable them to prove that they have skills and energy, but just need someone to believe in them. We established the mentored work placement scheme three years ago with one company, we now have 11, offering 30 different placement opportunities. Similarly, we built on the success of this and replicated this with our homeless project and last year our similar Flying Fish Project was established for care leavers to prevent them going down either of these routes. Our aim now is to ensure that these programmes can grow by ensuring the financial underpinning that is essential for their success. We are creating a new role of Placement Support Officer to support clients post -placement to address any issues that are barring them from moving on to the next step in thier lives, especially into employment. We have plans to take on a work experience student to work with Probation to ensure that those who should be referred are reffered and have plans to introduce an element of sporting activity into the homeless project, building on models from around the country, but all this requires three year funding.
