    Situation

Volunteers have become a cornerstone of the community - feeding homeless people, manning help lines and helping stroke sufferers recover. By being visible as volunteers, disabled people are able to challenge the perception that they are receivers, rather than givers of support. Interim evaluation results are startling: that 94% of volunteers feel better in themselves and 87% are more confident thanks to volunteering. Demand for the service has been unprecedented, with 130 volunteers involved against an anticipated 100. We currently have a waiting list of 40 aspiring volunteers who are keen to connect to their communities. For this reason, we are looking to expand and seeking the funding to do so. Funding needed: £56,000 per year. Ideally we’d like to secure the project's long-term future with £170,000 for three years or £280,000 for five years.
