    Situation

This coming year, it will cost Body & Soul around £150,000 to continue to provide its award-winning TeenSpirit service. The transition from adolescence into adulthood can be difficult and emotionally challenging at the best of times. But add to this the pressure an HIV positive diagnosis, or that of a close family member or friend, and for many young people it can tip the balance. It can lead to fear, isolation, and the living of a ‘dual’ life: one where friends or family know about their relationship with HIV, and another where they don't. This can often mark the beginning of a wider decline and disengagement with the world around them. TeenSpirit is helping over 400 young people address these issues head-on via a range of services designed to support their mental, physical and emotional well-being. Hand in hand with this, Body & Soul also provide support with the inter-connected issues that can often run alongside an HIV diagnosis, such as issues related to unemployment, education, poor housing and debt. It is this holistic approach that ensures that Body & Soul is an invaluable and unique source of information, advocacy, comfort and advice for all the people its serves.
