To mark FFI's 110th year we are raising support to save biodiversity, the fabric of life supporting the systems humans and all other species rely on; from provision of freshwater, to shelter and food. By working in partnership and securing habitat we are stopping the threats faced by Earth's species

    Situation

Biodiversity is being lost at 1,000 times the natural rate, and with increasing pressures related to population growth - such as conversion of habitat to agriculture, hunting and human-wildlife conflict - as well as issues such as climate change, the need for conservation has never been greater. With populations worldwide growing so does the pressure on natural resources; conservation can also provide innovative solutions for alleviating these pressures.

    Solution

FFI has long recognised that the most effective form of conservation is to secure habitats - many more species benefit from this approach. It also allows us to engage with local communities who rely on these habitats for natural resources - timber, water, etc. FFI works with these communities to identify and implement sustainable alternative livelihood activities, such as bee keeping or tourism, which provides a sustainable income while reducing pressures on these habitats and natural resources.
