We are working in partnership with Crisis, the national homelessness charity, to open a new and inspirational Resource Centre in central Birmingham offering health and wellbeing initiatives as well as accommodation advice and routes into employment and training. This will replace our existing Day Service buildings which are unfit for purpose and will provide a 'one stop shop' for homeless people, particularly rough sleepers.

    Situation

We want to create a physical environment which raises self esteem and increases aspiration in a central and accessible location. The plan is to engage homeless people through delivering open access to meals, clothing and showers along with health surgeries and support to move on into settled accommodation and to access 'in house' skills workshops and learning and volunteering opportunities. The goal will be to improve physical and mental health and to support people back into society through a range of meaningful activities and help in finding and sustaining accommodation. 10% of our clients will go into employment and training schemes provided by partnerships with local businesses and colleges. Refurbishment costs for a suitable building to get it to the standard we require are £4.2 million. We anticipate receiving £2 million of this from statutory funding so need to raise a further £2.2 million through fund raising and donations.
