The RSPCA South Cotswolds Branch is delighted to announce that it has recently acquired some land in the local area so that it can build a brand new animal rehoming centre. The land is based at Beechmeadow Farm in Cambridge, Gloucestershire and will service the Dursley, Stroud, Cirencester, Nailsworth, Tisbury and Fairford and surrounding areas. The build of the new animal centre will take about 3 years to complete and will aim to house at least 20 dogs, 30 cats and accommodate other smaller animals as well.

    Situation

At present, the South Cotswolds Branch relies on its relationships with privately run catteries and kennels on a demand only basis for the housing of animals in its care. The current set-up means that animals brought to the branches for re-homing are frequently turned away due to lack of space, and owners advised to approach other welfare charities; a situation which could be vastly improved by the development of a branch-operated re-homing establishment. Providing a new facility at Beechmeadow will improve things for us so much in terms of animal welfare provision. The new building will include kennelling and runs for 20 dogs and 30 cats. There will also be an isolation area, comprising 4 individual units. To accommodate smaller domestic animals, there will be 10 units, each capable of housing up to 2 rabbits or guinea pigs. “We will also house a reception area, an office for the Centre Manager, a staff / meeting room and an office for the administrative staff. There will also be facilities to allow animal socialisation and training to take place; an internal ‘home’ room, vital for both dog and cat assessments, along with outdoor training paddocks for off-leash exercise as well as activities such as agility and dog training classes. Whilst this is all going to be wonderful, the cost of the facility is always at the back of our minds and we really want to get the local community involved in helping us to fundraise to ensure that we can continue to provide the best care possible for the animals. We will be asking people to think about fundraising events such as car boot sales, sponsored dog walks and abseils, and doing collections for us. All the money we raise goes towards animal welfare and the animals are always at the forefront of everything we do.
