    Situation

    ‘Defeating the Dragons’ will deploy forum theatre approaches as an innovative, differentiating training mechanism generating high impact learning outcomes. The 30-hour accredited training programme will be aimed at marginalised individuals in order to stimulate entrepreneurship and enterprise amongst disadvantaged individuals and communities. The training will utilise role play to present positive, inspiring scenarios about people moving into self-employment or setting up in business. It will also use dramatic representation to explore the realities and challenges of the enterprise environment. Critically, it will build the confidence and self-belief of participants through the use of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques. This heightened confidence will be the foundation of a ‘can do’ outlook which is an essential pre-requisite for entrepreneurship. The pedagogical methodology adopted will involve the use of a series of interactive, dynamically evolving role play scenarios using professional actors experienced in forum theatre techniques. This forum theatre approach will give the programme an intrinsic cutting edge over other training programmes in the region, which rely on more orthodox (and less dynamic and stimulating) ‘classroom-style’ approaches. The course will also involve a series of competitive creative challenges to enable participants to put their ideas and new-found skills into practice. This unique approach will act as a further hook of engagement for marginalised learners by building upon the popularity of successful enterprise-focused television programmes such as ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘Dragon’s Den’ – hence the title of the training. Point Blank has already received requests to deliver such a programme from numerous community organisations and business support agencies across the region. Point Blank will work closely with local authorities and business support agencies, such as Business Link, Sheffield Enterprise Clusters and the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative, in order to provide clear progression opportunities and avenues of support, guidance and crucially finance to enable participants to make their enterprising ideas a reality. ‘Defeating the Dragons’ will have the following key benefits for participants and the community:  develops key life skills such as communication, team working and, crucially, confidence;  empowers participants through gaining a nationally recognised qualification;  training enhanced through the use of forum theatre to reinforce high impact learning outcomes;  enables participants to explore enterprise ideas, leadership and negotiation styles etc in a safe practice environment;  provides clear progression routes into employment helping to break the cycle of deprivation prevalent in disadvantaged communities;
