The new 'Centre for Disability Studies' will facilitate training, support, research and collaborative working across the county, and will be constructed with sustainability in mind in order to minimise impact on the environment and maximise longevity for the thousands of people who will use it.

    Situation

Current research from the EHRC suggests as many as one in five of the British population has a disability. In Essex this means there could be up to a quarter of a million people living with a disability or long-term health condition. Whilst much has been achieved in terms of independence and equality, there are still far too many disabled people who face persistent and economic exclusion. We want to continue our work but previous accommodation was dated, inaccessible and insufficient in size.

    Solution

We need a new centre to operate from so the charity can deliver more effective levels of service and foster relationships with other organisations across the East of England.
