"Healthy Arts" is a project which focuses on the promotion of healthy living amongst people with disabilities, a group often neglected in terms of tailored awareness raising and practical solutions to health issues. It provides a range of healthy living services delivered by qualified health professionals from specially equipped outreach vehicles, in order to promote healthier lifestyles and effective disability management.

The Healthy Arts project offers a variety of health-related services to people with disabilities and older people, delivered on an outreach basis in order to reach as many individuals across the county of Essex. These services currently include: - Blood pressure monitoring - Oxygen level checks - Information on Heart Disease and Stroke prevention - Therapeutic art activities to aid physical and mental rehabilitation - Healthy lifestyle advice and support The aim of the project is to promote awareness of the dangers of conditions such as high blood pressure to people with disabilities, highlight the importance of regularly monitoring such conditions, and help individuals understand the measures they can take to lead a healthier lifestyle. This target group is often neglected because of a lack of accessible, understandable information and advice, and often many people with disabilities do not have the confidence or mobility to regularly see their doctors. Please help us continue this project well into the future, it currently costs us over £100,000 a year to maintain the Healthy Arts service. There is no other integrated outreach service like this in the county catering specifically for the needs of the local disabled and elderly community. The project has already been recognised for its impact and value as the only charity finalist in the NHS Regional Health and Social Care Awards 2008 and the Best Practice in Equalities Awards 2008.
