Situation

Children with disabilities need to be stimulated and be physically active. For disabled children and their families the cost of getting into suitable venues can be prohibitive. For some parents their children’s condition limits where they can take them to places that are very expensive. Because disabled children need someone else to go with them to leisure activities, this increases the costs. This can result in disabled children become socially isolated.

Solution

The project will encourage venues and leisure providers to offer free or discounted entrance for disabled children, and be listed in a directory of accessible, welcoming venues. This will help increase their visitor footfall, help raise staff awareness of the needs of disabled children and will enable families to more easily visit activities with their disabled and non-disabled children.
