Addaction’s Breaking the Cycle (BtC) project works with families affected by drugs and alcohol – especially when dependent children are at risk due to parental substance misuse. We provide specialist workers who help parents to reduce their substance misuse and improve the lives of their children.
It ran from 12:00 PM, 1 January 2012 to 12:00 PM, 1 December 2012

When drugs and alcohol are part of everyday family life, children are likely to experience insecurity, neglect, lack of structure and isolation. Often they will avoid school because of bullying. They may be forced to take on a caring role, either looking after the misusing parent or their younger siblings. This places an adult burden on them at a very early age. The experience is likely to have a damaging impact on their emotional development, academic achievement and life opportunities.
