Situation

We work with BMER children mostly Somalis. According to a 2016 study, Somali youth offenders are over-represented in Feltham Young Offenders Institute because of: 1. perceived lack of legitimate opportunities for making money 2. academic failure According to the Prince’s Trust Youth Index 2014, lack of positive role models is driving young people to join gangs. Deprived families cannot afford to go on summer holidays so children spend their time in the estate where they are introduced to crime

Solution

We will run entrepreneurship workshops for 8 hours/day, 3 days per week for 6 weeks in summer where up to 30 children/day will be taught by positive role models using games and fun activities about running a business, designing products, managing money, employability and soft skills, honesty , resilience and creativity etc. The sessions will be delivered by Sabirul Islam who is an accomplished young entrepreneur https://www.sabirulislam.co.uk/schools/ We will provide healthy food based on
