    Situation

Buglife's very popular Bug Buddies newsletter reaches the end of its funding in December 2009. Feedback has been very positive about current Bug Buddies, and we have been pleased to find that people of all ages read and enjoy it, not just youngsters but older bug enthusiasts too! However, we do feel that now is the time to redesign Bug Buddies to give it a more professional feel. We would also like to revise the content and language to ensure that it is accessible to a younger audience. Bug Buddies will be aimed at children aged 5-11 years old (Key Stages 1 and 2). It will be colourful, interesting, educational, appealing and fun. The aim of Bug Buddies is to educate children about bugs and invertebrate conservation, get them involved in small practical steps of conservation action, and ensure they are sufficiently engaged as to continue to their interest into teenage years and subsequently, adulthood. Bug Buddies will reinforce the science education at Key Stages 1 and 2, particularly feeding into the Minibeast-themed topics. We will produce two editions per year (spring and autumn/winter) for three years – six magazines in total (2010 to 2012). 4000 copies of each edition will be printed and distributed. Due to heavy demand, this is double the number of copies of Bug Buddies that are currently printed. Total project cost (3 years) = £41,882 (including staff time, IT equipment, design, printing, distribution) Funding secured = £10,000 from a Trust and £6,105 volunteer contribution Amount we need to raise = £25,777
