The single homeless are lowest priority for local authorities. They are neglected and can become entrenched in their homelessness, potentially leading to life long problems. Two Step will find long term housing in the private rented sector, and give support to sustain tenancies and rebuild lives.

Situation
Single homeless are least likely to be housed by a local authority because of limited resources and lower perceived need. Many hundreds exist in Manchester. The combination of lack of good diet and sleep, fear, cold, loss of confidence and self respect - can quickly lead to substance misuse and isolation. It can take months, even years, of visiting day centres before solutions start to become apparent. By then the person's life could be so shattered that it will take years to rebuild.
Solution
Two Step has operated successfully in London for 17 years and will also work in Manchester. We house people quickly in the private rented sector and can provide emergency accommodation through our Stopover supported lodging scheme. We will work closely with landlords and tenants to sustain tenancies and provide mentors to support the rebuilding of their lives. It is not uncommon for a homeless person to be housed the same day they visit us in our London Two Step.
