Through our fantastic outreach programme, the Centre changes lives. We extend horizons, giving people of all ages access to the arts via a range of community projects. Tiger Bay Tales will unearth and share recollections of the diverse community of Tiger Bay and its fascinating social history.

    Situation

This project will permanently capture the rich, diverse and spirited history of Tiger Bay which lies within a shared ‘square mile’ of Wales Millennium Centre, before living memory is inevitably lost and further capital development changes the dynamic of the area. The physical heritage has changed and much has been lost. The heritage that remains within the stories and recollections of the community is at risk due to age, fragmentation and dispersement.

    Solution

Local primary school children will be trained in interview techniques and supplied with digital recorders to collect stories (promoting intergenerational interaction), while a steering committee will facilitate community involvement through leafleting and events. Tiger Bay Tales will have 3 outcomes: 1) A physical Blue Plaque Trail, linked to a free-to-download app with an interactive map 2) Viewing Pods, permanently located in various venues across Cardiff. 3) A microsite as an online database
