Pittville will provide community based accommodation for young people with complex disabilities, giving them the opportunity to develop essential life skills in a realistic setting. This will equip them with the skills and confidence they need to live more independently in their future lives.

    Situation

Our existing community based accommodation is no longer fit for purpose. Located in an old rambling house it accommodates 27 young people, it has an institutionalised feel, lacks ensuite bathrooms, ceiling hoists and assistive technology. Shared bathrooms are located at the end of long corridors. There is insufficient space to practice life skills such as cooking. The property is leased, and requires ongoing expensive maintenance and upgrading.

    Solution

We have been gifted a piece of land in the centre of Cheltenham and have developed plans to build specialist residential accommodation on the land -Pittville Project -which will replace our existing community based provision. This will accommodate 25 young people in ensuite rooms, located within 5 small clusters. The accommodation will be domestic in scale, and will have all the specialist equipment and facilities needed by the young people we work with who have severe and complex disabilities.
