In its Bicentenary year, Dulwich Picture Gallery, England’s first public art gallery, needs help to secure its future for the next 200 years by increasing its endowment to build on the services which our audiences depend and extend the boundaries of what can be achieved through engagement with art.

    Situation

An expanded exhibition programme, high visitor numbers and increased education participation have all placed demands on the Gallery’s physical space and resources. We do not receive government funding, and operate with a deficit despite our rigorously cost-effective approach, a salary freeze in 2009 and a strong fundraising record. We must increase our endowment to help cover running costs, exhibitions, and education, and to safeguard the Gallery’s key leadership positions.

    Solution

The project will strengthen the Gallery’s financial position by raising awareness of our special funds and endowments, fill critical gaps in our funding and secure some key areas of work. It will help us serve our visitors in the short term while ensuring that we can continue working to expand our reserves. With this project, we are making the investments we need to begin securing for the future our long tradition of excellence, responsiveness and accessibility.
