Situation

“Health, obesity and food education struggle to be taken seriously, but it’s a national emergency.” Jamie Oliver. In the UK we’re eating too much of the wrong foods so we are not getting a balanced diet. The UK is the fattest country in Europe, as a result, we are more likely to become obese, or develop serious diet-related diseases that can lead to premature death. Scarily, 1 in 5 of our children is already obese - figures set to rise to 2 out of 3 by 2050 if present trends continue.

Solution

Jamie’s Ministry of Food is a simple, practical idea that can empower people by giving them the skills to change their eating and cooking behaviour, to make both short and long term changes to their lives. We aim to do this by teaching people how to cook using Jamie’s Ministry of Food course – a carefully devised and nutritionally analysed, course of delicious Jamie recipes – covering a wide variety of food items and types such as everyday quick snacks and family-friendly meals.

  • This is without doubt the most important project I’ve ever worked on. Cooking is one of the most important things we can ever learn in life.

  • We have a modern-day war on our hands now and it’s over the epidemic of bad health and the rise of obesity.
