The Soko Fund has been supporting women to gain access to higher education since 2004. We have had many successes with students becoming teachers and doctor. We would like to establish the Coordinator position to ensure that all students are supported and to attract potential students.

    Situation

In Malawi, there are very few opportunities for women to gain access to education. To obtain higher education is even more difficult, yet such an education is so important for the women themselves, and their families, as well as for the development of Malawi itself. Educating women leads to improve social and economic status for their families and giving Malawi a new generation of qualified teachers and doctors allows essential development.

    Solution

Recruiting an Education Coordinator will reduce the risks of students dropping out by supporting them through the process. The Coordinator will also bring past and present students together to discuss ways that more women can access education, and the most effective way to use the studentships. Finally, and importantly, the Coordinator will encourage young women who have completed secondary school to dream of going to university. This is Malawi's future.
