Many young people rarely leave their area and this can limit their aspiration. We will provide young people with a varied programme of trips & activities embedded with the personal development skills needed to increase their confidence and encourage them to dream bigger for themselves.

    Situation

The Baytree Centre for Women and Girls is located in Lambeth, one of the most deprived boroughs in the country. Those accessing the centre face multiple barriers to inclusion: lack of English language skills; poverty; poor housing; isolation; depression; racism and discrimination; abusive homes; family breakdown and a lack of family support and structure. As a result of their isolation, young women are stuck in a cycle of low self-esteem and low aspirations.

    Solution

By providing young women with the opportunity to try new things and visit new places they will start to develop the confidence they need to succeed. The activities we will offer will be aligned with the four streams of our GEMS Youth provision: Grow, Enjoy, Move and Study. This allows us to create a varied programme that has something for everyone and encourages young people to become well-rounded adults.
