Situation

Each year, approximately 331,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK. Whilst medical treatment can target a patient’s cancer, it is often accompanied by painful and distressing physical and psychological side-effects. Patients and their families can be left feeling emotionally exhausted and very much alone. Furthermore, following a merger of 3 hospitals in 2014 our patient numbers have increased.

Solution

Our Cancer Support Programme provides complementary therapies and exercise groups, completely free of charge. The therapies relax the mind and body, improve sleep quality and reduce stress and tension. Physical activity during and after cancer treatment can boost energy, alongside reducing the impact of side effects such as lymphoedema (swelling of the arm) , anxiety, depression and impaired mobility. The project simply aims to improve patient wellbeing during a very traumatic time.

  • It has helped the connection with myself. Get in contact with my inner self. Too love myself more. And a lot of calm and peace.

  • Coming for a massage is a real motivational factor in getting me up and out of the house… I come out feeling fab, cherished and much more able to cope

  • Fantastic, just what I needed. I couldn't go to a mainstream exercise class just now but I still want to get fit. So this was perfect
