Most of the dogs who come into our care have probably never been in a home environment. Many have also had a traumatic or difficult past, having perhaps suffered neglect or abuse. Many come to us from pounds (where, if unclaimed, they would be euthanised) or Ireland, where the majority of racing greyhounds are bred. These dogs are gentle, loving and wonderful companions, and deserve a second chance at life by being placed into permanent, loving, family homes.
In order to find permanent homes – and successfully stay there – these dogs need to have specialist care, training and equipment. Our project aims to give these dogs essential ‘life skills’ – e.g. being able to socialise with other dogs and humans, to adapt to a busy home environment, and to the outside world at large. We provide this support both prior to a dog being homed, and on ongoing basis to the dog and their family after homing – providing support for life.
