Specialist talking therapies for vulnerable children have enormous benefits for their long term mental and physical wellbeing. We work with families who are in poverty and socially isolated. We collaborate with local schools, the Local Authorities and other agencies to support families.

    Situation

Serious mental health issues affect 1/10th of UK children but only 1/4 are receiving any kind of specialist help. LBHF estimates that 2400 children in their borough alone need such support but currently do not receive a service. Many continue to be disturbed and are at risk of becoming involved with drugs, crime or becoming young teenage parents. There is a recognised need for more & better therapeutic support that treats the whole family, at an early stage of childrens’ lives.

    Solution

We will provide 1:1 specialist therapy and counselling for children and their parents. We will also offer 3 group services in local schools for children aged 4-11, who have been identified by the school (Mighty Me, Cool Moves & Shining Stars). Children and parents are helped to identify best hopes and goals for the future and are involved in shaping their own therapy. "WLAC provides crucial and transformative services for the school and our families" - local school governor.
