Hoylake Cottages provides 24 hour nursing, respite and day facilities for older people and those with dementia. Our big idea is to create a new sensory and celebration garden for our residents, clients, their families and carers.

Situation
The current outdoor space is very limited and consists of a small bricked area with patio furniture. There is currently no outdoor space for personal reflection and privacy and little stimulation to offer a calming and therapeutic atmosphere.
Solution
Part of the problem will be addressed in September 2011 with the handing over of a paved and turfed area for us to create our sensory garden through design, landscaping and planting The garden will include a variety of different landscapes joined together by pathways. Pergolas will provide shading, trellises with creeping ivy will give a sense of personal space for reflection and privacy, and a variety of flowers, greenery and trickling water will provide a calming and therapeutic atmosphere.
