Transforming the Day Treatment Unit /Chemotherapy

Undergoing Chemotherapy can be complex and lengthy. Some patients attend 2x week for months. Our chemo Unit is drab and forbidding. We hope to transform it with a warmer Reception area and wonderful art which welcomes, is positive, engages and comforts.

Situation

The Day Treatment Unit consists of one long horseshoe-shaped room accommodating 30 chairs and 12 beds. Currently there is little artwork or distractions. The windows are very high so patients can't look out. The furniture is not ideal. There has been feedback that the room is not welcoming or comfortable. When patients are coming for quite distressing treatment it is hugely important to improve their experience as much as we can.

Solution

With new comfy seats and an extensive art programme under the unifying theme of landscape: bringing the outside in. The Chemo team aims to: - create a more welcoming and positive feel to the Chemotherapy suite; - install wonderful artwork and space that will provide some comfort and distraction for patients - provide an environment sensitive to patients and those working in and visiting it. - create a more pleasant, restful space that lifts spirts and promotes healin
