    Situation

A child may be born deafblind by either a rare genetic condition or a very premature birth. Because it is a rare condition many health specialists are unaware of the vital help and support that a family need at a very early stage. After the initial shock many parents tell us of the struggle they have to find the specialist help, advice and support they so desperately need.

    Solution

We will employ multi-sensory impaired (MSI) specialists to work closely with children’s hospitals. Through this Sense will ensure that health professionals in contact with deafblind children understand the range of specialist early intervention skills and support Sense is able to offer deafblind children and their families. Developing knowledge information services and referral systems we will ensure more families are able to access the specialist support for their child at an earlier age
