Brathay works with those under 25 who are most disadvantaged or vulnerable, and who have suffered abuse or neglect, social exclusion or who are outside employment, education and training. We support our beneficiaries to develop the skills and confidence they need, to make positive lifelong behavioural choices. Our vision is of a society where all children and young people have access to formal and informal education to enable them to fulfil their potential.

The key to our work is that people learn by doing. Our unique bespoke programmes combine targeted youth and community work with experiential learning in a residential setting. Brathay help to accelerate the young people’s understanding of the situation they are in now and support them to reach where they aspire to be. They learn to work with others, to understand and appreciate people’s differences, and to take responsibility for their actions.
