Receiving an education is vital in tackling the root causes of poverty. Historically, kindergarten education in Ghana is under-funded with rural communities having no proper school buildings. The school at Ayensudo will allow that rural community to gain access to an education for their children.

    Situation

Kindergarten schooling in Ghana is woefully underfunded with no dedicated classrooms or learning resources of any kind in many rural communities. Many Ghanaian children start primary school without a solid foundation in literacy or numeracy and this in turn leads to high failure rates and children being held back year after year. Many children struggle and simply drop out of school altogether.

    Solution

Sabre has begun tackling this huge shortage of kindergarten infrastructure, by designing and building a new prototype school for Ghana. In 2009, this first kindergarten school was built at Dwabor with the help of the local community and is now fully in use, accommodating 120 pupils. The next school will be built in the rural community of Ayensudo, creating 2 kindergarten classrooms and 1 nursery enabling the children of that community and the surrounding areas to access pre-primary schooling.
