There are no suitable facilities in the town of Louth to provide regular, affordable and focused space for participatory community arts activities and small scale performances/presentations. The Riverhead Theatre (home to Louth Playgoers) is stretched to capacity delivering its in house and visiting professional programme and needs additional space to meet need and demand for participation work, including its growing youth theatre and range of holiday programmes such as circus skills.
The proposal is to create a self contained extension that will have separate entrance to enable use whilst events are being staged in the main theatre building. The extension will comprise two large spaces suitable for practical activity with 20-30 , and associated toilet and kitchen facilities. The new facility will be programmed by the theatre and a community management committee to enable a balnaced programme of events that fulfil the range of aspirations identified via initial feasibility.
