Situation
There are links between poverty, membership of minority/indigenous community & reduced access to development opportunities. Minorities have higher rates of poverty than other poor groups & existing poverty reduction strategies have not been as successful for minorities & indigenous communities. The problem also lies in the unwillingness of governments in the three focus countries to be transparent in the way they allocate the budgets allocated to their Poverty Reduction Strategy.
Solution
This project aims to strengthen the voice of civil society organisations so they can influence policy, both at local and national levels, for the promotion of sustainable development and the improvement of livelihood security. It will furthermore enable the partners – and other activists – to participate in development at local and national levels, and in the medium term it supports communities to gain access to resources for local development and the improvement of essential services.
