    Situation

Each residential project has a strong community spirit, where the prime criteria for admission is poverty. The aim is to help each individual to reach his/her full potential through the provision of good quality full-time education, vocational guidance, and skills training. The quality of schooling is constantly monitored, and there is opportunity for further development through sport, music, and other activities. Many youngsters go on to formal training institutes and gain recognised qualifications, while the more academically able will continue on to further education. With the strong economy in India, they are acquiring skills that will enable them to compete with their city counterparts in the race for jobs, thus enabling them to take part in the future of their own country. While the Charity supports other programmes designed to help youngsters in their home environment, many of the residential children are orphans or semi-orphans and in all cases it is impossible for them to be sustained at home. Particular care is taken throughout their time with us to ensure that they are easily able to return and live within their own communities. Currently 1,300 children between the ages of 5 and 18 are being cared for in 13 residential homes, mostly funded through individual sponsorship. Unfortunately, through the loss of funding from an overseas group, 400 of these children, who will be completing their education over the next four years, are without sponsorship. We have agreed to assist these children as best we can, and are endeavouring to find new sponsors to help with their support, rather than let them down. We are confident that we will be able to find support for 65% of them during that period, however believe there will remain 140 for whom no sponsor will be found. £100,800 will support 150 children during four years of secondary education.
