It is our proposal to become the first North Tyneside Terra Nostra Centre and embrace every aspect of recycling, regeneration and alternative power sourcing. Current indications coming from Central and Local Government are that all Communities need to reduce the impact they have on the Greenhouse effect and the environment. We seek to develop a seven phase programme as follows: 1a. Putting the Well back on the Meadow Well –Extensive research has revealed that the initial well was serviced by a shale deposit at 10.9 metres below ground level. A test borehole confirmed this. The Ornamental Well will be designed and erected by local school children. This will act as a living landmark to a community that suffers from social stigma. This project is now funded and was launched on 07-07-07 by the Mayor of North Tynesdide Council. 1b Rainwater recovery. This project is well underaway with a 2 ton tank installed underground. Waters recovered will be used as required for the centres saniataion and the organic garden. 2. Organic Growing – The Community Centre is surrounded by 2.5 hectares of landthat has lain infallow for over 20 years. It is a prime site for organic growing. To this end we have employed Gavin Hill as Terra Nostra Manager. He will be offering training to all our users including, long term unemployed, school children (some of whom are excluded), those with physical and learning disabilties, elderly and those with drug and alcohol problems. This project is also funded. Despite Gavins short time in post he has already established training courses for two schools and a core team of volunteers to assist him. 3. Geo- Thermal Energy – We wish to replace our ageing boiler which is currently operating at 33% of its efficiency. Coupled with the increased gas prices of 70% over the last 18 months, it is making crippling demands on our overheads. By boring 28 holes underneath the field at a depth of 70 meters and installing geo thermal pipe work, connecting them to a thermal pump, we have the ability to supply all of the heating and hot water requirements of the centre. This project is partially funded. 4. Wind Turbines – We propose to erect 2 x 10 metre hub height wind turbines adajcent to the centre. These will be grid connected. At maximum capacity these units will be capable of furnishing us with 18.6 Kw of energy. The wind turbines are of new verticle design and the sound energy emmited is below the threshold acceptable for an inner city urban environment. 5. The Display – Each of these projects will be monitored using dedicated transducers belaying the informaton back to a central server in the ITC Suite. The information gleaned will be used as an educational vehicle not only for children but all other interested parties. 6. Biomass – All our current investigations have revealed that by installing log burning boiler in the Barn we should be able to run a 50kw log burning device. The timber required will come from the off cuts generated by the Barn itself. 7. Recycling - We have set up an Energy Savings Committee and we are at present in conjunction with North Tyneside Council, investigating ways in which we can encourage our community to recycle all their waste.

The Project Project Aim Our aim is to instill a sense of respect for our environment and to raise awareness of alternative energy sources, recycling and organic gardening amongst the community. Key objectives o To raise the aspirations of a Community long suffering from Stigma. o Establish a Living Landmark by putting the well back on the estate. o To educate our community as to the advantages of future technology. o To encourage and motivate our community into all aspects of recycling. o Develop an Organic Training Facility o Negate the need for gas. o Reduce reliance on commercial water. o Reduce Electrical Bills. o To share our findings with all other interested party. o To put the Meadow Well on the map as a place of example for best practices. Project Description The inception of this project has evolved from four years of research into every aspect of renewable energy. Our aims and objectives have been greatly enhanced by a bursary award from the Silver Jubilee Trust. This grant has enabled us to visit national and international manufacturers, advisors, Doctors and Professors who represent some of the greatest minds in Europe in this field. The unique features of this project; o First of its type in the North Tyneside Area o All aspects of the project are immediately transferable. o We will be working closely with a local manufacturing company for the benefit of a community, which is high in unemployment and deprivation. o We will be working very closely with our local authority and the voluntary sector to promote Sustainable Energy and Recycling. o We shall through example highlight all issues of Fuel Poverty. We shall encourage those undertaking new builds as to the economical advantages of the technologies we have put in place.
