People with kidney failure in Ghana have very little chance of survival. The outlook is worse than having HIV/Aids. Some kidney dialysis machines are available but at $100/session, 3 times a week, are out of financial reach of most. A transplant is the only real chance of a normal life. TLC performs surgeries and teaches the skills to doctors for a sustainable programme in the future. The kidney donor is a healthy member of the family who is given the chance to save the life of their loved one

Teaching transplant skills to local doctors, and performing surgeries save lives directly, and ensures many more will be saved in the future. For each transplant a kidney is donated by a healthy relative of the person with kidney failure. We all only need one kidney - so they return to a normal life having saved the life of their loved one. Helping a parent to save the life of their child is the best gift anyone could give, and was the driving vision for the creation of TLC.
