    Situation

Numerous children, particularly those of immigrant Jewish families, are so poor that they are unable to have a meal when they go to school. As a result they are not only hungry but their learning ability is affected. In the schools where we have been supplying a hot meal to these children, the teachers have reported that their academic achievements have improved significantly. As a result their career prospects are also enhanced and their potential contribution to Israeli society is likewise much greater. Currently we are operating this scheme in two towns, Beit Shemesh and Karmiel. We have a vision to expand this to 14 other towns which we have “adopted” stretching from Dan to Beersheba. The present cost is £1200 per year per child giving an overall present cost of £360,000.
