Blue Apple Theatre was launched in 2005 as there were no other local theatre opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. Blue Apple provides fun, purpose and challenge to a previously isolated and lonely group. Taking part in Blue Apple has built their confidence and social and personal skills. Theatre is important in building bridges of belief and understanding between different community groups. Blue Apple Theatre is fully inclusive of all abilities and performs to widely drawn audiences. This is helping a previously excluded population to access the community more fully. Blue Apple has about 30 members who rehearse at least weekly in term time and perform 2 or 3 main shows to the public each year. The goal is to extend membership to new people and build non disabled membership. A new mid week dance group is also being introduced so that more people can take part. Blue Apple has recently launched the Apple Core with the goal of giving a small group more professional training and the aim of using drama to change the way people see and understand learning disability. The Apple Core perform commissioned issue-based drama to change the way people see and understand learning disability. The aim is to develop and perform issue-based 3 dramas in 2009. Blue Apple Theatre is projected to cost approxinately £30,000 this year. Mid week dance costs approx £4-6,000pa
