    Situation

Pupils at the school currently enjoy a busy and fun packed sports and activities curriculum, part of which includes football fixtures with range of other schools. Due to such opportunities one our recent past pupils, who captained our school football team, is now serving with the Welsh Guards. Daniel highlights the benefits of the opportunities he had by stating that, “the sports we did at Headlands always gave me something to work towards, a target. I like having targets and I like achieveing my targets. For me it was always about learning to work better with people, when I was at Headlands I learned to play as a team.” The school has worked hard to maintain the good quality of its teaching and care provision. The sports facilities on site however are in very poor condition and need urgent attention. Our plans are to provide quality sports facilities on site that our pupils and local community can access. Our pupils are becoming more involved in working with other schools in our community, providing them with further opportunities to work cooperatively with range of people. We would like this work to take place in surroundings which are appropriate and fit for purpose. At present pupils travel off site to access basic sports facilities. The time spent travelling to and from venues has a negative impact on their learning. Many of our pupils, particularly those on the autistic spectrum, enjoy participating in physical activities but find transitions to other venues extremely difficult. If our facilities remain in their current state, reducing the amount of physical activities offered to pupils to prevent such transitions would need to be considered.
