    Situation

The project was established as it was shown through our regular volunteer brokerage that there were a number of people in Northampton that needed extra support to enable them to get into volunteering placements. The project aims to provide support and training for clients with extra support needs to prepare them for entering into a volunteering placement. Support can include: Initial one-to-one discussion - A private meeting room is available. Pre-volunteering training - This includes develoment of skills and confidence through tailored learning/training opportunties. Matching with an appropriate volunteering opportunity Support in the initial stages of volunteering - This can include accompanied first visits and a volunteering "taster" session. Follow-up support - We offer follow-up support to see how clients are getting on and whether they need any more advice or support. The end goals are to increase the number of people with extra support needs entering into volunteering which also has long term affects improving social inclusion and possibly leading to skills that could be used to move into paid work. The project costs around £35K to run per annum.
