Age Span is an intergenerational project which brings together young people who have experienced difficult circumstances and older people who are living independently, but need assistance with their overgrown gardens. Age Span service provides one off gardening help to older and disabled people and aims to reduce the long-term maintenance of the garden.

    Situation

Volunteers are all people who have extra support needs; they are taught new skills and given a new perspective on life. The Scheme is beneficial to both the householder as they are able to make use of their garden safely and also to the volunteer by improving their self-esteem whilst reducing anxiety and the risk of crime from the obvious signs of an older or disabled person living there. Both parties benefit from addtional social inclusion and interaction with different generations.
