Centrepoint Artswise

To develop the creative talents of the homeless young people we support, enabling them to get involved in a range of artistic activities including music, drama, dance, visual arts, photography and creative writing. Ultimately we want to inspire young people to love and want to work in the arts.

Homeless young people face a variety of problems, poor diet, unstable home life, physical or sexual abuse, many have slept rough. Most of experienced poor mental health. Many leave school without formal qualifications and they have had few opportunities to develop skills. Centrepoint wants to provide a fun way to participate and get back into formal learning, building self-esteem and improving life their chances.

Our regular consultation and direct work with homeless young people suggests that they are interested in arts activities and want a creative outlet for their thoughts, ideas and talents. Using detailed assessments of need, we will run a programme of arts activity to enable disadvantaged young people to explore their talents further and develop opportunities in the arts. Young people will be more engaged, more aware of the arts, more confident, motivated and see the arts as something for them.
